What is ProLon® 5-day fasting diet?

ProLon® 5-day fasting diet is a plant based, low calorie and scientifically supported five day fasting diet. This diet contains precisely measured macro nutritients (fat, carbohydrates and proteins) and micro nutritients (essential vitamins and minerals) that after more than 20 years of research have been carefully composed to experience the best effects of fasting, while still being nourished.

Only one cycle of the diet can provide rejuvenation of the body because your body will reset while breaking down old and damaged cells.

Fasting with food

The main benefit of the ProLon® 5-day fasting diet is that you eat regularly! The diet only takes five days and gives a great feeling. You will receive a box with five smaller boxes inside; for every day one box containing everything you are allowed to eat that day.

You will find for example nutbars, soups, olives, crackers and more. Furthermore, you do not have to buy groceries for five days.

With ProLon you eat normal meals, while still experiencing the positive health benefits of a regular fast.

How does ProLon work

Through careful research into fasting, ProLon has developed this cure to provide the body with just enough macro and micronutrients that it goes into a fasting state, while still nourishing the body. In this way the body gets the ultimate reset.

Your body does not get too little nutrition, which causes side effects (such as loss of muscle mass, hunger, gallstones, dehydration), but your body also does not get too much so that it does not enter the fasting process. It is exactly right.

That is why it is called the FMD®, or Fasting Mimicking Diet.

What happens in your body

The body goes into fasting and fat burning mode so that it can start renewing the cells.

The body starts burning fat. This contributes to the start of ketogenesis (production of ketones). At the end of this day (after 48 hours from the start) ketosis can occur, this varies per person.

On this day, the body starts recycling the cells. Fat burning and ketone production continue and are increased.

The recycling of the cells and the fat burning continue. The body remains in ketogenesis. You are now in the last part of the diet!

After this day, ketogenesis and cell renewal will continue on their own. Your body feels reborn.

The ProLon has been completed, today on day 6 it is advised to slowly build up your healthy diet. Make sure you eat light and healthy today. The health benefits last up to three months. From day 7 you can return to your former healthy diet.

Why is fasting good for us?

We all eat too much in the Netherlands. Every day at least 3 times and almost everyone still eats everything in between. We are not made for that at all. Those three meals a day have only been available to everyone since the industrial revolution, a few hundred years ago. Before that, we had to survive regular periods without food. Our bodies have adapted to that. Our cells “feel” when less food comes in and then adapt. They become more energy efficient, stop growing and multiplying, and invest more in maintenance and repair. They protect themselves from damage and start using waste products in the cell as fuel (“autophagy”). They “clean themselves up”. All of this is meant to survive the period of food scarcity.

The use of fasting-mimicking diets

FMDs are formulated in such a way that the body reacts as if nothing was eaten at all. There is a growing body of research showing that regular use of an FMD can contribute to better health. It is also safe to use for healthy people.

More than 20 years of scientific research

Dr. Valter Longo is the director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California and the director of the IFOM (FIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology) on longevity and cancer in Milan. He is the founder of fasting and was named one of the most influential people in health in 2018 by TIME Magazine.

Dr. Longo was awarded the first ever patent for the Fasting Mimicking Diet® (FMD®) for “promoting longevity and health”. He discovered how cells perceive food and then devised the ProLon formula that mimics fasting.

Dr. Longo’s most recent research focuses on using FMD® interventions to activate stem cell-based regeneration to promote longevity.

More than 20 years of extensive research sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) eventually led to the development of the first FMD® (ProLon ®) diet: the 5-day fasting diet.
